Water festivals are a one-day water based science fair open to area 4th grade students. Presenters provide hands-on activities, displays and talks, on a variety of water topics including aquatic insects, fisheries, the water cycle, water pollution, panning for gold, water safety, wetland plants and waterfowl. Personnel from the Northeast Glacial Lakes Watershed Improvement and Protection Project participate in both the Big Sioux and Northern Prairie Water Festivals.
The Big Sioux Water Festival is held in Brookings, South Dakota, in May on the South Dakota State University campus. For more information on the Big Sioux Festival visit: http://www.bigsiouxwaterfestival.org
