Prairie Coteau Watershed Improvement & Protection Project

South Dakota Envirothon

The "Envirothon" is a national natural resource competition for high school students.  South Dakota held its first state Envirothon competition in the spring of 2013.  Envirothon teams consist of five students and an alternative. The teams can be sponsored or comprised of high school students, or 4-H and FAA club members.  The teams compete in a day long competition that requires knowledge and skills in four resource categories: Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soils and Wildlife. Teams will also be required to give an oral presentation during the contest on a current issue selected by the National Envirothon organization.  The winning state team will be eligible to compete in the National Envirothon competition.
