123 to the Refuge

2nd though 3rd grade students from schools located near the Waubay Wildlife Refuge participate in this event held at the Waubay Refuge headquarters in September.  Students rotate through several stations manned by area resource personnel from; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, SD Game, Fish and Parks, Day County Conservation District, Bramble Park Zoo, National Weather Service, SD Department of Agriculture, SDSU Extension Service and Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate.  Students spend a half-hour at each station learning about seed dispersal, birds, mammals, reptiles, fisheries, freshwater mussels, weather and Native American Culture.
